Arizona constitution Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Arizona constitution - Essay Example However, it is an unfair process when amendments such as limiting the bail eligibility are proposed because they restrict the judicial system (McClory, 2010). This constitution gives more power to the people by giving them the right to propose and approve any changes to the constitution through the initiative process. This is where an amendment is suggested, and signatures are gathered to get to the voting stage where voters may consider and act on it. The legislature may also refer legislations to the voters for them to decide through a referendum process it to become a law. Therefore, these make the citizens able to consider their collective future without depending on their representatives and the legislature (McClory, 2010). This constitution is a populist and has a participatory spirit by including the right to amend it through the initiative and referendum process. This makes it fair enough and I think the progressive framers can approve

Inside the Clinton White House Essay Example for Free
Inside the Clinton White House Essay The book ââ¬Å"The Agenda: Inside the Clinton White Houseâ⬠(1995) written by Bob Woodward keeps an eye Bill Clintons activities on a day-to-day basis, and most often than not on a minute-by-minute account starting from the period Clinton made a decision to run for president by way of telling the story of his campaign, the election, and Clintonââ¬â¢s first year in office as President. The book deals with the time from late August in the year 1991to early 1994. Almost two-thirds of the book covers the planning, writing, and eventual passing of Bill Clintonââ¬â¢s economic policy, which is considered to be the ââ¬Å"heartâ⬠or ââ¬Å"coreâ⬠of his presidential campaign in the year 1992. Meanwhile, I personally think that the heart of Woodwardââ¬â¢s book is about the synergetic activities of the First Couple ââ¬â Bill and Hillary . This activities include their collaboration and partnership with their advisers and friends, their interpersonal relationship, their power, skill and capability to have an influnce on Congressmen, and also their failure to adapt and adjust to the way of living in Washington. In writing this book, the author interviewed and reinterviewed over 250 individuals. Sometimes, Woodward carried out 20 interviews with 10 sources to document and record a single meeting or a decision made. According to Woodward, in majority of these interviews, he had an agreement with his sources that he will withhold their identity. Nevertheless, in a lot of instances, the readers of the book could easily recognize these sources. Aside from conducting Woodward also obtained information from diaries, schedules, meeting notes, transcripts, and memoranda. I think that most likely, the greatest surprise of the book is the degree to which the people or the sources gave their private papers and opinions to Woodward. In fact, a lot of those people who are close to the First Couple offered exceedingly candid, and oftentimes condescending evaluation of Bill and Hillary. Upon reading the book, as I have said earlier, I think that the topic of the book is Bill Clintonââ¬â¢s first year in office and his effort mainly to pass an economic plan. However, I also think that his effort also includes NAFTA and Health Care. As I can remember, President Clinton had promised three main things as far as his economic plan was concerned. These things are first, to cut the deficit; second, to cut middle class taxes and third, to reinvest in social programs for the working and middle classes. Nevertheless, they swiftly discarded the tax cut and the spending programs ensured afterward, so all they had left was a strategy to cut $500 Billion from the countryââ¬â¢s deficit for a period of five years. This brought about a big gap and discord among the inner circles of the Administration. According to the book, on the one hand were the deficit hawks and on the other hand were the people who wanted to stress tax cuts and spending programs. In the meantime, according to Woodward, somewhere in the middle, leaning one way or another, was President Bill Clinton. Despite the fact that the author discloses in detail what a lot of people know, which is the reality that Bill has a temper and has the capacity to be enraged at people, Woodward likewise portrays Bill as a man who is sincerely concerened regarding what has occurred to the middle class people and a man who honestly desires to fulfill his promises made during his campaign and help the people. Moreover, in his book, the author depicts Bill as a hard-working and intelligent President who might have a hard time coming up with a decision, yet wishes to attain what he thinks and feels will enable America to become a safer, better, and more secure nation. In this book, Woodward has also portrayed a somewhat convincing and believable picture of Bill Clinton at work as President. Nevertheless, he also showed a not-so-pretty picture of Bill Clinton. For instance, Woodward has shwin that Bill Clinton tends to vacinate, even though Billââ¬â¢s uncertainty to act in a powerful and straightforward way is an outcome of thinking too much. Hence, it is in this part that Woodward paints a positive image of Hillary. According to Woodward, she thinks that the burden of implementing the Administration policies was too much on her husband and she also thought that a lot of senior officials in the Administration and on the staff were stopping short of full preparation. In his book, Woodward also disclosed some of Hillaryââ¬â¢s thoughts about Bill. According to the book, Hillary said that her husband was such a complex person. She also said that no one had described the whole personality of Bill because people kept attempting to chop Bill into little pieces. She further said that her husband confused people because his manner produced dissonance. Woodward has kind words for Hillary in this book. Obviously, it can be gleaned that Woodward spent several hours with Hillary and was extremely impressed with her. In his book, Woodward regards Hillary to be Billââ¬â¢s most significant adviser. Woodwards thinks that Hillary is a considerate and compasionate woman because she is eager on doing things that she thought would be best for America. Woodward said that oftentimes, Hillary thought of the thousands of people they had seen and met during their campaign rallies and trips and rallies and she thought and felt that she and Bill had a responsibility to deal with these peopleââ¬â¢s and the countryââ¬â¢s concerns. In terms of the style in writing thr book, Woodwardââ¬â¢s book is well-written and interesting and offers a postive and favorable impression and account of Bill Clintonââ¬â¢s work as President. I even think that the book could convince or persuade some Republicans to vote fo Democrats in the next election for President. In reading this book, the reader will observe that Woodward made a novelistic approach to a political issue because as stated earlier, Wordward was able to show that he obtained information from a variety of sources including getting insider information. I think that the purpose of the book is to show that Woodward has unique access to the inner councils of government, and to show the reader an exciting glimpse of the typically unknown process of governing. I believe that through his work, Woodward was able to show that in his own subtle way, he is capable of creating an indictment of centralized political power. I think that ââ¬Å"The Agendaâ⬠is a good example of this method of Woodward. Nevertheless, I also think that there is a problem with the authorââ¬â¢s failure to take into account larger concepts and ideas. Since the authorââ¬â¢s viewpoint is somewhat narrow, since sometimes he is looking down into the details, he tends to miss the big picture. I think that the big picture is how insignificant Clintonââ¬â¢s bill was. Moreover, the author mainly centered on Billââ¬â¢s failures but doesnt put the appropriate emphasis on the planââ¬â¢s conclusion: President Clinton got his economic plan passed eventually despite of the odds against him and numerous gaffes, a budget that could be considered as equally important as the 1981 Reagan plan, was passed. Lastly, I think that Woodward must have done o a better job explaining how hard and complex it is to get things accomplished and fulfilled in Washington, particularly legislation that is viewed as damaging well-established and ingrained interests and introduced by a freshman administration. # Reference Woodward,B. Love in Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet Essay -- Shakespeare, Romeo Juli
Love. In all its facets and colors, love is understood and accepted as a concept by even the most primitive cultures. But what is love? Many writers have debated this subject. Many works have been produced detailing the understanding individuals had of the concept of love. à à à The more accepted conception of love is usually found in Romeo & Juliet. Many people refer to it as love at first sight, in French, ââ¬Å"le coup de foudreâ⬠, as if you had just been struck by a lightning bolt. This interpretation dates back to the courtly love tradition which manifested during the late Middle Ages, first through chivalry and then more openly among the nobility. In fact, many references to the courtly love tradition are found in the play, for example, Juliet's famous line: ââ¬Å"I'll prove more true than those that have more cunning to be strange.â⬠Here, Juliet is obviously talking about the other women, those who know to be coy. à à à The courtly love tradition is, however, best expressed in all the works I have chosen by ââ¬Å"The Miller's Taleâ⬠, Chaucer's recalling of tales supposedly told in his time period. In this story, we witness the amorous liaison between Alyson, the carpenter John's wife, and Nicholas, a student of astronomy and courtly love. The lovers engineer a stratagem which will allow them to consume their passion without fear of retribution, but only after much insistence on the part of Nicholas. à à à ââ¬Å"Then Nicholas began to plead his cause à à à And spoke so fair in proffering what he could à à à That in the end she promised him she would.â⬠à à à It seems strange that, in both stories, there seems to be some resistance to the tradition of courtly love. Both stories were written during the Middle Ages, two hundred years apart. We can ... .... à à à à à à Everyone always thinks they hold the truth. The Word of God can be a convincing argument for those who rely on faith to survive. The word of man, however, makes a stronger point, as it demonstrates how foolish and artificial our beliefs can sometimes be, and how they can change and evolve with time. à à à Who is to say what love will be a hundred years from now? What will they write when they speak of us, of our own courtship rituals, of the looseness of morals we sometimes manifest? Will they see our behaviours as evil or good? Or will they see us as people who acted according to the values set in the culture in which we lived? à à à Or is it better not to think of the future, and just love each other, as we always have, regardless of everything else ? Gender Issues of Mesopotamia Essay -- Gilgamesh Gender Female Rights E
Gender Issues of Mesopotamiaà à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Throughout the history of our society, women have gained a certain respect and certain rights over time. Such simple aspects of life such as getting a job, voting, and even choosing who they would like to marry are things that women have fought for, for many years. At one point, these were all things that women in America and parts of Europe had no right to. Men as a whole had suppressed women and taken control of the society. Despite mass oppression in history, women have risen in society and now posses these natural rights. à à à à à Back in the days of Mesopotamia, things were quite different. Women were respected for who they were and did not have to fight to gain the rights they had. Hammurabiââ¬â¢s Code contained laws, which respected the rights of women. Society in general was formed around this sort of sexual equality. Many of the codes within Hammurabiââ¬â¢s Code favor the men of the society, though many of them spell out certain rights for the lives of the women. Certain laws lie within Hammurabiââ¬â¢s code in order to solve problems of the society. It spells out the punishment for certain acts eliminating any further complications. Code 136 for example, explains what is to happen to a women whoââ¬â¢s husband runs off; ââ¬Å"If any one leave his house, run away, and then his wife go to another house, if then he return, and wishes to take his wife back: because he fled from his home and ran away, the wife of this runaway shall not retur...

Frankensteinââ¬â¢s Monster Essay
In the beginning of the story, Elizabeth who was adopted daughter of Victor Frankensteinââ¬â¢s parents falls ill to a deadly illness, which is called scarlet fever. Victor Frankensteinââ¬â¢s mother nurses Elizabeth, and she finally gets better; however Victor Frankensteinââ¬â¢s mother contracts the illness with fatal consequences. Victor Frankenstein becomes very upset when his mother dies. This event make Victor Frankenstein very determined to study and become a doctor and preserve life. Victor Frankenstein goes to a university in Ingolstadt to study. He seems to be in two minds about his, ââ¬Å"departure for Ingolstadt, which had been deferred by these eventsâ⬠, because he feels guilty about leaving the house of mourning so soon but he is very eager to study. When Frankenstein begins his study at the university, he becomes interested in bringing people back to life. He becomes so interested that he convinces himself that he could revive a dead human being back to life, ââ¬Å"one of the phenomena which had peculiarly attracted my attention was the structure of the human frame, and indeed, any animal endued with life. â⬠The next part of the story is when Victor Frankenstein creates the creature and he tries to bring him to life by using electricity, ââ¬Å"I collected the instruments of life around me, might I infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing .â⬠Once the creature gains life, Victor Frankenstein describes the creature as a ââ¬Å"demonâ⬠and a ââ¬Å"wretchâ⬠. Frankenstein can only see what the creature looks like on the outside and so believes the creature is evil, â⬠How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? â⬠Mary Shelley makes the reader feel sympathy for the creature by the way see the way the monster was made this fill us full of horror because the way he was made is completely unnatural ââ¬Å"I dabbled among the unhallowed damps of the grave or tortured the living animals to animate the lifeless clayâ⬠This make u feel that the monster was born out of pain and horror. Another way Mary Shelley make feel sympathy for the creature is the way she describes the place the creature was made as no one should be brought in to the world in a place like that ââ¬Å"In a solitary chamber, or rather cell, at the top of the house, and separated from all the other apartments by a gallery and staircase, I kept my workshop of filthy creationsâ⬠Some readers may gain sympathy towards the monster as Frankenstein refers to the monster as filthy as may mean filthy as physically filthy or mentally filthy. One of the biggest ways that Mary Shelley gains sympathy for the creature is the way she describes him, this tells the reader how ugly he is and it also tells the reader what Frankenstein thinks of him ââ¬Å"His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles arteries beneath; his hair was of lustrous black, and following; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but seemed almost the same colour as the dun-white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips. â⬠The description Mary Shelley uses gives the image that the creature is evil although the creatureââ¬â¢s personality is pleasant. Also this is how Frankenstein sees the creature as Frankenstein should be a farther figure and towards the creature he should help the creature to learn about the world instead he is disgusted by what he has created also and only see what the creature looks like not how the creature is inside and so he believes the creature is evil. One other way is the way that Frankenstein flees his creation ââ¬Å"The miserable monster whom I had created. He held up the curtains of the bed; and his eyes, if they maybe called, were fixed on me. His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his cheeks. He might have spoken, but I did not hear; one hand was stretched out seeming to detain me, but I escaped and rushed down the stairs. I took refuse in the courtyard belonging to the house, which I inhabited. â⬠This makes you feel sympathy towards the monster because Frankenstein should be like a father towards the monster and help him through the early stages of his life but instead he abandons him leaves him to survive on his own. Probably the monster feels frightened, and confused, as he is like a newborn baby unaware of anything also not knowing anything. Uneducated, Victor Frankensteinââ¬â¢s creation is forced to fend for itself, and find food, even he doesnââ¬â¢t know how to or what food is.
